Thor blinks back tears and looks up at Fandral. He really has the greatest friends a person could ask for.

“Thanks, Fandral,” he looks in the bag and a small smile graces his lips. Inside is Oth. He grabs it and holds it to his chest tightly, not caring how weak he might look or that he is in a public place. He shuts his eyes and buries his head into the stuffed animal.

“You can stay if you want. Tony is currently with Loki, though…so we’re letting them have some privacy.” He pats the seat to his left then returns to cuddling his sloth.

Fandral smiles when he sees Thor embrace the sloth. It’s ridiculous and cute all at the same time to see a man as big as Thor, hugging a stuffed sloth. He’s been through a lot so it’s understandable. He takes a deep breath and lets it out silently when Thor addresses him. “Uh…” he shifts uncomfortably and looks at the other people in the lobby. He melts when Thor pats the seat and goes back to the sloth. “Yeah, I’ll stay with you guys.” He smiles a bit at Thor and even shares the smile at Rogers. He takes his seat and lifts the lunch bag. “There burgers and fries are in here if you get hungry. I didn’t know Stark would be here too, I just had two burgers and some fries. If you want I’ll get you guys something to eat?” he directs his question at Rogers since Thor is a bit preoccupied.

Steve can’t help but smirk when Thor hugs his stuffed sloth, can’t stop the surge of adoration and thankfulness that rips through him at the sight. He loves his boyfriend. He really does.

Steve returns the smile Fandral gives him without even thinking about it, more than grateful for the man’s help and assistance. “That would be great, man,” he replies, rubbing his eyes in fatigue and letting his smile grow the slightest bit. “Thank you so much.”

Thor hears his stomach growl and smiles thankfully up at Fandral. “That would be awesome, thanks.” He’s starting to feel a little better now. There aren’t quiet as many bricks in his chest anymore because there are people here, friends, and Loki is alive, and Tony is taking care of him, and maybe things will be okay.

“…I wonder how Loki is doing…” he whispers half to himself. Tony did say he would tell him if something changed.

Thor tries to smile at Steve but it just turns into a watery grimace so he keeps his head down and concentrates on feeling again. They make their way down the hall, hands twined together, but Thor hasn’t felt more lonely than he does at that moment. All he really wants is to be sitting beside his brother. He wants to be there when he wakes up and when he sleeps and just…he wants to be there. No he needs to be there.

They reach the elevator and Thor focuses on calming down. He doesn’t want to worry Steve any more than he already has. It isn’t fair for him to break down when Steve has been so strong. The elevator starts to go down and Thor feels trapped. It’s too small in here. No way to escape if something happens. No way to run to Loki if he needs to.

When the doors open Thor stumbles out and collapses on a nearby chair, chest heaving with deep gasps of air. He can’t do this oh god

Steve moves his arm to Thor’s shoulders once the elevator doors open and the man stumbles, holds him steady to keep him from falling over in fatigue or sadness (or both). He sits down in the chair next to the man, not breaking the physical contact, and just busies himself with rubbing Thor’s back and kissing his temple and simply being there for him.

“I’m sorry, Thor,” he eventually says. Everything in him is screaming for him to somehow undo this, somehow make this not have happened, somehow have gotten in touch with Loki faster or called him or something, somehow made it so that this whole mess never occurred — for Thor if not for anyone else — but he knows that such a thing is impossible for him to accomplish. It’s just killing him to see the person he loves in so much pain.

Thor simply nods silently and lets Steve fuss over him. He can’t find it in himself to say anything or do anything else. He feels something in his pocket vibrate and he pulls out his phone.

“Fandral is on his way,” he says quietly. He turns in his seat so he is facing Steve. “Thank you.” He looks into Steve’s blueblueohsoblue eyes and half smiles. “I can’t thank you enough. I don’t know too many people who would be willing to put up with me right now.” Then his voice cuts out and he remains silent.

Steve shakes his head a bit, leaning over to kiss Thor’s forehead and murmur, “It’s okay. I’m never not going to be here for you.” He doesn’t expect a reply, just holds Thor in a half-limp embrace and keeps his eye on the entrance, waiting for Fandral to arrive.

Fandral closes his laptop and makes a dash for his kitchen. He had finished making hamburgers the day before and stored them in the fridge for his next meal. He supposes that Thor needs them more than he does now. He puts the two burgers and fries into two large containers and puts them in his cooling lunch bag. Then heads to his room.  He doesn’t know what books Loki would like, so he grabs a few of his own personal favorites; Stellaluna, The Giving Tree, and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. He locks up and heads straight for Loki and Thor’s house.

He fines the key in the same spot and lets himself in. He heads for Thor’s room first, barely registering the whimpers and barks as he walks through the house. He gets duffel bag and neatly folds two of everything; pants, shirts, underwear and pairs of socks. He glances at the stuffed sloth for a moment before carefully stuffing him into the bag as well. Fandral then head to Loki’s room. He stands in the doorway for a moment as a chill runs through him. ‘Loki’s fine. He’s fine now.’ He thinks and shifts through Loki’s book collection. He grabs a Psych text book, a Steven King novel, but stops short of the children’s books he sees. He thinkgs hard before just playing ‘Eeny, meeny, miny, moe’ and gets whatever his fingers point at; The Velveteen Rabbit and Where the While Things Are. He places all the books into Thor’s duffel bag and head downstairs.

He’s past the kitchen when he hears the barking once more. He places the bag down and sees Fenrir outside barking like mad. He walks over to the kitchen and grabs the bowl on the ground then scoops a cup and a half of the dog food into the bowl. He places it back on the ground and opens the door to let Fenrir in. Once the dog’s tail is in, he closes the door. He grabs the bag, and then once he makes sure that Fenrir won’t run out the front door, leaves and locks it. Off to the hospital.

Fandral shoves his books into Thor’s bag before entering the hospital. Another shiver runs through him upon entering. He skimps the lobby, nervously handling the bags before he spots Thor and Rogers. Together. A small flicker of anger rises before diminishing as quickly as it comes. He can’t get angry, not now. Not while Loki is in the damn hospital bed and Thor and Rogers are down in the lobby having a moment. He takes a breath when he and Rogers make eye contact. He nods and head over a bit awkwardly with the bags.  “Hey,” licks his lips nervously, “I, uh, brought some burgers, books, and your clothes, bro. Um, I think you’ll be a bit happy, well I hope you’ll feel a bit better, when you look in your bag.” He hands Thor the duffel bag. “You might have to move the books to find him though.”

Thor blinks back tears and looks up at Fandral. He really has the greatest friends a person could ask for.

Thor looked up when he heard the knock on the door. He shared a quick glance with Steve before getting up from his position next to Loki. He reluctantly let go of his brother’s hand and walked towards the door.

When he opened it he was greeted with a tired looking Tony.

“Tony…” Thor trailed off. He was never sure how to act around Tony. He noticed the way Tony’s eyes instantly drifted past him and into the room and he stepped aside. “Come in.”

Tony didn’t pay much attention to Thor when he opened the door— just took in his appearance quickly, eyes darting up and down and taking note of how this was probably the most quiet he’d ever seen Thor, and how he actually really didn’t like  it given the situation.

He cleared his throat, feeling awkward, not too sure what to say to the other man either, looking over his shoulder into the room, stopping short of craning his neck. When Thor stepped aside, he stood for a moment, not moving and not speaking. It was as if his motor nerves had shut down while he mentaly prepared himself for what was to come, until he blinked, suddenly, and walked almost jerkily into the room, passing Thor without another glance.

He actually let out an audiable noise of distress once he was in there, though. He registered Steve’s presence, but only barely, eyes drawn instantly to Loki looking so pale and helpless and gone, asleep there, thin hospital sheets gathered around him, outlining his body. The position he was lying in wasn’t one of natural sleep, it was one of someone who could do nothing else and lay whatever way they were put.

He stepped slowly toward the bed, setting the root beer down on the bedside table as he lowered himself gently to sit on the side of the bed, not taking his eyes off Loki for a second. He bent his head to look down as he took his hand in both of his, turning it over and interlocking their fingers, lips curving into a sad smile as his eyes were drawn to the nail polish. He blinked back his tears before he realised his eyes were watering at all, and cleared his throat roughly before sniffing.

“He, uh— he say anything yet?” He wasn’t sure if he was asking Thor or Steve, and his voice sounded broken and unfamiliar even to him as he left the question hanging in the room.

Steve clears his throat quietly, awkwardly standing beside the small dresser in the room. “He kind of vented when he first woke up, but since then, he hasn’t said much of anything,” he replies, his voice muted and slightly impassive. He examines the plane of Tony’s back and sees so much sadness there, in the line of his shoulders and the curve of his spine, and he swallows against the surge of emotion the sight fills him with, forces himself to look away from the two of them, who he can only see as two pieces of a puzzle awkwardly and hastily shoved together at the moment.

Steve looks over to Thor, who seems like he’s on the verge of dropping at any moment. Without thinking twice, he moves over to the man, asks in a hushed tone, “Do you want to leave now, or…?” He voices the question carefully so as to not offend or upset Thor, knowing the potential he has to do just that.

“I-” Thor wants to say that no of course he doesn’t want to leave. But as he looks between Tony and Loki he knows he needs to leave them alone for a little bit. “Fandral was supposed to drop some things off…I guess we can go wait for him in the lobby…” Thor thinks for a second, “Or I mean. You don’t have to come if you don’t want to…”

He shrugs tiredly and closes his eyes. His head is pounding.

“Tony,” he calls quietly. “I’ll be downstairs. Just…let me know if something happens,” he quickly adds a small, “please.” and then is walking out the door.

Steve grimaces sadly, taking Thor’s hand and squeezing it the slightest bit. “I’ll come with you,” he promises, letting the man lead him out of the room and down the hallway.

He’s silent throughout their journey downstairs, giving Thor as much space as he needs right now. He doesn’t want to push him, but fuck if he isn’t dying to know how to make Thor feel better besides just being docile and nonverbal.

Thor tries to smile at Steve but it just turns into a watery grimace so he keeps his head down and concentrates on feeling again. Tony pulled at the hem of his shirt as he followed the directions the nurse had given him, gaze flying over the numbers on every door he passed, looking for the ward Loki was in. Hospitals put him on edge a little, he always felt muted when he went into one. People talking in whispers, visitors making awkward, sympathetic eye-contact with the random patients they passed on their way to where they were supposed to be going. Sometimes he wanted to shout as loud as he could in the middle of one of those long, white hallways, just to hear some sort of genuine noise bounce back at him, or to see what everyone would do.

His voice wasn’t gonna come to him right now, though. He paused as he reached Loki’s door, stuffing his empty hand in his pocket to hide the shaking (he really, really didn’t want to fall apart in front of Thor), the other hand holding a bottle of root beer he’d picked up on his way. He had no idea what to bring Loki, everything he thought of just seemed measly and insignificant, but— yeah, he’d spotted the root beer and grabbed it.

On second thoughts, he took his hand out of his pocket again, and knocked three times quickly, but gently, heart beating so hard he could feel it in his stomach and in his fingertips, even as he hid it in his pocket again, waiting and listening.

Thor looked up when he heard the knock on the door. He shared a quick glance with Steve before getting up from his position next to Loki. He reluctantly let go of his brother’s hand and walked towards the door.

Hey, everybody. It’s been a long day but I wanted to let everyone know that Loki is okay. Thank you for your concern.

Is he allowed visitors?

Yes. I…I think Loki would like that.

You mind if I go visit the last 10 mins of visiting hours or so? Don’t wanna rile him up or anything

That’s fine.

Lemme know when the last 30 mins or so of le hours. Hey you want me to take you anything?

Um. Clothes would be nice. Thanks. Maybe a book or two for Loki? I don’t know how long he has to stay, yet.
